Lion Dogs in Arita porcelain

Product Development and OEM

The contemporary artist Miwa Komatsu asked us to produce 10 Lion Dogs for her exhibition at Waterfall Gallery in NY in 2016. Based on Miwa Komatsu's drawing, we formed and fired the Lion Dog in porcelain, and she painted them herself to decorate. It was the second time we collaborate with Miwa Komatsu, and this time her requested form was more difficult to realize as her Lion Dog needed wings and legs were like fish, but we achieved thanks to the efforts by our Yamashita and Yamashin mould maker. Yazaemon 7th attended to her exhibition in NY this time. Her paintings and Lion Dogs were all sold out.

Miwa Komatsu

Born on 29th November 1984 in Nagano, Japan
Graduated from Joshibi College of Art and Design where she decided to become a copperplate painter. Her artwork "Shijukunichi" in which she expressed her own view on life and death came under the spotlight.
Then she expanded her activities in pen drawing and ink painting and so on.
In May 2015, she created the Guardian Lion Dogs to collaborate with the garden designer Kazuyuki Ishihara for his "The Edo Garden" which won the Gold Medal at Chelsea Flower Show in UK. In October, this “Guardian Lion Dogs: Heaven and Earth” was elected for permanent display at the British Museum.
